Alexander Vasilev with a first title at a male tournament
01 June 2026
The young star of Bulgarian tennis and ambassador of UBB and Mastercard Alexander Vasilev has won his first title in singles at a male tournament. The 19-year old national player won at the final in Kurshumliyska banya over Denis Klok (Russia) with 6:, 4:6, 6:2 in a match full of twists and turnarounds that spanned over two hours and 27 minutes.
Alexander made a breakthrough as early as during the first set and that proved sufficient for winning it, however during the second set every single game could tilt the scales. Upon 3:4 Vasilev lost his serve, won the next game, but immediately after that permitted a new breakthrough and it cost him the set.
In the third set Sasho was impeccable. With a total of three breakthroughs in serving to his opponent Vasilev reached matchball in the eighth game and after a backhand in Klok’s net he raised his arms triumphantly.
This victory will take off Alexander for the first time in Top 700 of the global ranking. The curious thing being that he and Ivan Ivanov - the other UBB and Mastercard ambassador - now have absolutely equal number of points
