UBB Tennis Tournament 2024: 110 matches and 14 hours of intense tennis-paying within a single day
30 September 2024
40 men’s and 32 mixed doubles participated in the fifth edition of UBB’s Amateur Tennis Tournament. It was traditionally held during the last weekend of September at the tennis courts of the National UBB Tennis Centre in the Borisova Gradina Park in Sofia city. Due to forecasts for bad weather on Sunday, all 110 matches from the tournament programme were played on Saturday. This in itself represents a record as the largest number of matches, played at a tournament within a single day. In order to cover the programme, the contestants used 10 tennis courts, and the event offered 14 hours of intense tennis playing.
In the men’s category the winners were last year’s vice-champions Veselin Trifonov and Grigor Shopov. In a very contested final match, they won over Christian Gerasimov and Assen Georgiev by 6:4. For a second consecutive year the mixed doubles title was won by Vanya Zhelyazkova and Vladislav Iskrenov. The second place was taken by Gergana Nedina and Tsolo Tsvetkov.
The awards to the winners and finalists were presented by Peter Andronov, Chief Executive Officer International Markets of KBC Group and Chairman of the Supervisory Boards of UBB and DZI and by Georgy Donchev, Manager of the National UBB Tennis Centre.
„Tennis is a game which adds 9.7 additional years to a person’s average life expectancy. Life expectancy, linked to health, movement and better quality of life. This is a cause we at UBB, DZI and KBC Group have dedicated to, and we re-confirm our commitment with this consecutive edition of the tennis tournament. Congratulations to all contestants and well done to the winners. Continue practising the tennis sport and active living. We will be waiting for you here next year, too, when you will be more in numbers and in even better shape. “, shared Peter Andronov.
UBB has been organizing this tournament since 2018, with interruption during the Covid-19 pandemic only. It is with free access to all, who are not professionally engaged in tennis-paying and have turned 18 years of age. The amateur tennis contest is part of the log-term policy of KBC Group in Bulgaria for promoting sports and the healthy way of life in this country.
