United Bulgarian Bank (UBB), part of the Belgian financial group KBC, was announced The Best ESG Bank in Bulgaria at the high-rated Annual Euromoney Awards for Excellence, organized by the specialized British magazine Euromoney. The magazine assesses competition participants based on their achievements, innovations, and their performance over the last twelve months. Upon choosing UBB as the best bank in Bulgaria in the sustainability domain the decisive factor was the Bank’s ability to demonstrate the best performance vis-a-vis its competitors and its skill in facilitating the introduction of ESG practices.

The prestigious award of Euromoney indicates that our efforts are properly targeted and serves as an even bigger incentive for us to further contribute to the positive ESG transformation in Bulgaria.", shared Peter Roebben, Chief Executive Officer of UBB and Country Manager of КВС Group for Bulgaria.

Over the last year the Bank has successfully implemented series of projects in the sustainability domain, among which the ESG Academy for employees, partners, and university students in partnership with the Faculty of Economics at Sofia University, as well as the UBB Agro Emissions Calculator, developed with the cooperation of the Bulgarian Institute of Agrarian Economics.

Being the biggest financial group in Bulgaria KBC actively promotes the reduction of the negative and the enhancement of the positive impact on the environment. In Y2022 the reported carbon emissions reduction for KBC Group Bulgaria was by 81%, as compared to the Y2015, used as a basis.

The distinction of Euromoney is a consecutive one for UBB in the sustainability domain, after the Terra Carta seal of the Sustainable Markets Initiative and the ESG Awards, organized by PWC Bulgaria.
