United Bulgarian Bank (UBB), part of the Belgian financial group KBC, was awarded a prize in the Market Share category at the 33-rd edition of the Bank of the Year competition. The event, traditionally gathering representatives of the banking sector, politicians, university lecturers, public figures and business leaders, was held on 20.06.2025 at Grand Hotel Millennium in Sofia city.

UBB received another two prizes at the prestigious competition in its digital categories. The Bank was distinguished with a prize for Digital Transformation and for Best Active Digital Product regarding the voice-initiated fund transfers through the AI-based digital assistant Kate.

„These awards are very special to us, as they are an appreciation of our achievements during a rather busy year, in which we completed the full merger of UBB and KBC Bank Bulgaria. The prizes are in recognition of all more than 5000 employees of UBB, who work relentlessly and responsibly, to make those achievements happen. However, the most important message that I would like to convey is that all our efforts and work are subordinate to our willingness to fully meet the requirements and expectations of our customers, who are at the core of our business and of everything we do. We are still not able to fully satisfy our customers, but this for sure remains our biggest ambition“, shared Christof De Mil, Chief Executive Officer of UBB, who received the prizes on the Bank’s behalf.

Over recent years UBB has received the prestigious Bank-of-the-Year award for 2023 and 2018, and also the prizes in the Development Dynamics category for 2023 and 2018 and in Efficiency category for 2021 and 2022 and The Best Digital Product for 2023.

The Bank of the Year awards are being organized annually by the Bank of the Year Association. They were established and presented for the first time in 1992. Apart from the big Bank-of-the-Year prize, the ranking distinguishes winners in three main categories – Market Share, Efficiency and Development Dynamics. Additionally, a prize is also given to the best foreign bank’s branch. There is also a Bank-of-the-Clients prize, as well as awards for Successful Digital Transformation and the Best Active Digital Product
